Tonight, the men's 2008 Rider of the Year competition comes down to the wire with three riders in the hunt for the championship. Shane Kline (USA) with 295 points holds a slim 15-point lead over Doug Repacholi's (AUS) 280. Olympian Bobby Lea (USA), currently in Beijing, is in third with 275 points, but won't be able to make up ground due to his absence. The only other rider with a mathematical chance of catching the leaders is the 2007 Rider of the Year, Pete Fitzpatrick (AUS) with 250.

On the women's side, Laura McCaughey (AUS), has all but wrapped up the championship for 2008 with 390 points. However, while holding a cammanding 105-point lead over Argentina's Veronica Martinez's 285 points, Martinez still has a chance if she can win the women's ROY event tonight and McCaughey doesn't participate in tonight's program.

The World Series of Bicycling's Rider of the Year standings have been updated to include the results from last week's Fastest Man on Wheels.

In the men's standings, Doug Repacholi (AUS) makes a surprise surge to tie reigning Rider of the Year, Pete Fitzpatrick (AUS) for third place in the '08 standings, both with 215 points. While not scoring points in last week's event, Shane Kline (USA) still holds onto second place with 240, only 35 points behind American Bobby Lea's (USA) 275. With Lea at the Olympic Games and unable to defend his position, it looks like Kline, Fitzpatrick, and Repacholi will battle it out over the remaining two events to claim the overall title in 2008.

MEN'S STANDINGS

On the women's side, Aussie Laura McCaughey (AUS) with 300 points holds a slim 40-point lead over fellow Australian Michaela Anderson (AUS). However, McCaughey has been absent racing on the road and Anderson has since returned to Australia. With two events left, Veronica Martinez (ARG) is poised to inherit the lead should she bring home a couple of good results as she currently has 250 points. However, hot on her heals in fourth place is Liz Carlson (USA) with 230 points.
